Coffee and church? I’ve been in The Haven Coffee House numerous times but didn’t know that a church met there in the lower level.

The Flourish Church has been there for 7 years. It was started by Jim Huthmaker and wife Jessie.

Jim spent 17 years in the US Forest Service but just didn’t feel fulfilled. So, he resigned, got a degree in Bible Theology from Bible College in Colorado and worked for a pastor at Heartbeat Church of Colorado Springs.

About 8 years ago, they felt God was leading them to start a new church in Lexington.

They started in an old Es-so station in Cayce that he had leased for his wife’s personal training business.

They tried starting with a Tuesday night bible study, but that just was not working.

Jim again felt God was talking to him and was saying “I didn’t tell you to start a bible study, I told you to start a church.”

And, that they did. Starting with 25 people and a boom box for the music.

They moved about 6 months ago to a new location in Lexington.

Now, around 100 people gather at The Haven on Sundays for worship, fellowship, music and hearing about God’s love and grace.

Their service is traditional but not like most churches.

They spend 20-30 minutes in music worship and fellowship before a 15 minute “testimony time.”

That is where 3-6 members briefly share what God did in their lives during the week. That is followed by a 30-40 minute sermon and more fellowship.

They are a close-knit group of believers who love each other and love serving God together.

They also have a 9 a.m. discipleship class for adults and a typical bible study as well.

So, if you want a new experience and some great coffee, check out the Flourish Church some Sunday. They will be happy to see you.

I want to know what

your church is doing.
