New owner coming to Big S Drugs

Big S Drugs has advised that effective April 1, Hawthorne Pharmacy will acquire ownership of the facility. Hawthorne will have huge shoes to fill! The people of Pelion and the surrounding area will truly miss the personal and friendly touch that Ursula and Kit have given to us over the last 30 years. We wish them the best.

Pelion American Legion Auxiliary Unit 101 will sponsor a spaghetti or chicken bog fundraiser March 24, 3:30-6 pm. It will be held at the Pelion Community Center. Plates are $10 in advance eat in or carry out. Call for tickets by March 22 to Sarah Mills 803-360-6486 or email saraheb.mills@gmail.com . Proceeds benefit Girls State and Benevolent Fund (school lunch program) for local schools.

Pelion Elementary All Pro Dads meets March 22, 7 am, in the cafeteria. PES Archery Team will participate in the State Championships in Sumter March 26. They have had a very successful year under the leadership of Coach Colby Coulter.

The Chorus students will perform at the Pelion Schools Showcase March 26, 5:30-7 pm, in front of the Pelion Performing Arts Center. Mrs. Rush, PES art teacher, will also have student art work on display. The administrative team and student leaders will be at the PES booth to hand out books and pencils to the students.

School counselors Julie Long and Amanda Barefoot are organizing the annual Career Fair for students March 28, 8-11 am. Parents and community leaders have been invited to share information about their jobs and careers during this time.

Forts Pond Elementary student Brooke

Stalnaker and her team from Country Springs 4H Horse Club in Pelion won first place in both the state 4H Horsebowl and the Hippology contest at Clemson University March 9 and 10. These educational contests are based on horse knowledge. Congratulations to Brooke.

Natalie Spence, second grade teacher, applied for FPES to become a part of the PepsiCo Rally Recycling partnership and the school was selected. Student Recycling Heroes will be collecting and counting plastic bottles. Pepsi is sending recycle bins, posters and magnets. This Leader in Me team will be under the direction of Gina Mahoney, Guidance Counselor.

Mallard Market will be held at FPES March 30, 9 am-noon, in the cafeteria. There will be several vendors. Table rentals provide extra funding to support our Leader in Me leadership clubs. There will be a photo backdrop for parents to take their own photos of their children.

Congratulations to Pelion senior, Monea Goodson, on signing to play volleyball at the University of SC.

Pelion Senior Center members will go grocery shopping March 22. Games for the coming week will include shuffleboard, kornhole, and bingo.
