piring Principals Academy and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Winthrop University, a Master of Science in education with a specialization in curriculum, instruction, and assessment from Walden University, and a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina. She is a National Board-certified teacher in English language arts, a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Palmetto State Teachers Association and S. C. Association of School Administrators.

Don’t forget registration for Forts Pond Elementary 2018-2019 school year begins on July 23.

Pelion Library hosts preschool story-time July 18 at 11 a.m. for ages 2-5 years. July 13 will be “Songs to Grow On” at 10:30 a.m. and features Irene Rose Smith. This event is for grades K-5. Yarn Art is July 14 at 10 a.m. for ages 13 and up. Tween Extreme meets on July 17 at 3:30 p.m. and will be playing Extreme Musical Chairs. This event is for grades 4-7. Family Game Night featuring movie and TV Trivia will be held on July 19 at 6 p.m. This event is for all ages.

Congratulations to Samantha Kyzer of Pelion, who is on the President’s List at USC-Aiken. Also, to Joshua Montgomery and Megan Barnes of Pelion, who are on the Dean’s List.

More scholarship winners include Ava Miller the University of SC Sumter Scholar, Winthrop Garnet Scholarship, USC School of Music String Bass Scholarship, Roy & Ruth Nichols Scholarship, and the Ruritan National Build Your Dollars Scholarship. Chandler Stanley received the Greater Columbia Education Advancement Foundation Scholarship, Make Your Mark Scholarship, Newberry College Academic Scholarship and the Newberry College Athletic Scholarship.
