New year, new ways to get involved

Koon's Watch

With the start of a new year, people are likely to set some goals.

You may want to eat healthy, save money, learn more or give back.

Did you know we have several community programs for you to get involved with this year?

Resolve to grow your circle and resources in 2020 with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Citizens Academy

This program is designed to acquaint residents with the objectives, organizational structure and general operating procedures of the Sheriff’s Department to promote goodwill and community support.

Conducted periodically, the program consists of 9 sessions that are held Tuesday evenings. It includes a ride-along, jail tour and unit demonstrations. Get to know your local law enforcement agency on a deeper level.

Neighborhood Watch

Interested in learning how your neighborhood can form a safety group? Neighborhood Watch is an organized entity committed to crime and vandalism prevention in your subdivision.

A successful Neighborhood Watch chapter includes 50% of the residents and is required to meet once every 3 months.

We will send out your Resident Deputy or a Community Action Team Deputy to conduct your initial meeting and set your group up for success.

Phone Guard

This program is designed for the elderly, disabled or those who may have severe medical problems, and are home alone during the day.

When accepted for this program, the individual makes daily telephone contact with the Sheriff’s Department. If contact is not made, a deputy is dispatched to the residence to conduct a wellness and safety check.

Citizen Awareness Programs

Do you organize workshops and seminars for your neighborhoods, civic clubs, church groups or employer?

We can supply a trained speaker for your next safety event. Topics include: business security, career information, workplace violence, holiday safety, gangs, scam and fraud prevention, internet safety, identity theft, crime prevention, home security and more.

Contact our the Sheriff’s Department front desk for more information at 803-785-8230.
