More learning at home help

A new website offering digital teaching and learning is available to teachers, parents and students.

SCRemoteLearning.com provides instructional resources, developed internally by the SC Department of Education.

It can be used for all grade levels.

Website links include a virtual field trip to the San Diego Zoo, digital games and a worldwide pen pal project.

Additional content will be added to the website as it is developed.

Help for musicians

The Christopher Conner Foundation is providing relief for musicians impacted by covid-19.

The Let It Sing relief grants will award $500 per qualifying applicant.

The foundation’s board of directors will direct 50% of its scholarship funds to the newly created grant.

If you are a South Carolina musician in need of assistance due to cancelled performances, you a can apply for a Let It Sing grant at www.connerfoundation.org.

The foundation is accepting donations from those in the community that would like to contribute to the Let it Sing Covid-19 Relief Fund so that additional grants can be made available.

Democratic online convention Saturday

The Lexington County Democratic Party County our Convention recycling has efforts. been rescheduled for Saturday, n April and publicity. 18 at 9:00 am.

This will be a tele-convention and the contact information will be sent out one week before the convention.

County Delegates and Alternates will receive a separate email confirming them as delegates.

24/7 recovery resource

The Courage Center has launched a hotline to help those struggling with substance abuse recovery.

The Central SC Recovery Hotline connects people with live recovery coacher, 24 hours a day.

Coaches share information about treatment centers, sober living places, recovery meetings and other resources throughout central South Carolina.

Call the 24-hour Midlands substance addiction support line at 803-369-3821.

Supplies needed

Several retirement centers in the county are running low on supplies.

The Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce is collecting supplies 9 am to noon through April 17. You can drop them off outside the Chamber office at 1006 12th Street, Cayce.

Needed supplies include:

• Masks - Dust, N95, and homemade

• Disposable Gloves

• Disposable Gowns

• Hand Sanitizer

• Disinfectant

• Shoe Booties

• Industrial Cleaning Wipes

Good news for foster families

Katrina’s Kids has disbursed over $18,000 since the end of March to families caring for children in foster care and to group homes statewide.

The first round of funds disbursed was a total of $10,000 divided up in to $250 gift cards to help families with needs in the event that they suffered hardship as a result of covid-19.

The latest round of disbursements sent money to 60 group homes throughout South Carolina to be used for the group homes to have a pizza party or do something fun for the children.

Katrina’s Kids partnered with SCDSS in these efforts.
