Cayce hotel business license suspended

A Cayce hotel’s business license was suspended last week after staff refused to help a domestic violence victim.

The business license for the Knights Inn Hotel, located at 1987 Airport Boulevard in Cayce, was suspended effective Oct. 2.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety believes that criminal activity, complaints and arrests have placed a strain on the city’s public safety services as well as the safety of its citizens.

Cayce Department of Public Safety Director Chief Byron Snellgrove said that Knights Inn management refused to call 911 for a woman experiencing domestic violence.

Cayce Department of Public Safety reported that in the last 90 days, Cayce officers have responded to 169 calls for service at the hotel.

In 97 of these responses, criminal complaints were filed, including arrests for Trafficking Methamphetamine, Strong Armed Robbery and Attempted Murder.

During that same 90-day-period, the owner of the hotel was charged and convicted of operating a nuisance business.

The suspension will remain in effect pending an Oct. 24 hearing before Cayce City Council members.

The hearing will determine whether the business license will be revoked permanently.
