Deported drug trafficker arrested again

Nicholas Benitez-Hernandez, 46, pled guilty in federal court to illegal reentry. The Mexican citizen was previously deported after serving a cocaine trafficking sentence.

Man dies following police pursuit

Daniel Scott Bunch, 30, died May 4 from injuries sustained from a motor vehicle collision following a police pursuit. Bunch evaded a joint public safety checkpoint in the Fernandina Rd. area then initiated a pursuit with Lexington County deputies. His car left the road, went down an embankment and collided with a tree. He died at the scene.

Teen charged for deadly Irmo police chase

Renas Davis, 18, has been charged with multiple offenses after an April 4 police chase turned deadly. Davis fled from officers and collided with a tree. Officers later discovered the car had been stolen from Columbia. Detectives also recovered a firearm on one of the juveniles. The coroner’s office identified the teens as Travis La-mount Green, Jr., 15; Travion D’Monte Green, 13; and Reshad Daloamir Davis, 15. All died due to “multiple traumatic injuries sustained in the accident.” The other teens in the car were Davis, 17-year-old Jerquaris Harper, and a 13-year-old.

8 arrested for gang-related charges

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced criminal gang-related indictments of eight people in Richland, Lexington, and Newberry Counties on murder, attempted murder, burglary, conspiracy and other offenses. Investigations began following a series of shootings in 2016 at multiple locations in Lexington County and the City of Columbia. Alleged Blood gang members Tyree Dayquan Geiger, William Anthony Burrell, Jr., Davanta Terrance Johnson, and Nasiir Ali Shaheed Daniels have each been charged with conspiracy, two counts of second degree burglary, petit larceny, grand larceny, and multiple counts of breaking into motor vehicles.
