Irmo man charged with sex crimes

Investigators with the Irmo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division arrested Daniel Newbanks, 43, of Irmo.

He is charged with 7 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, 3rd degree and 1 count of conspiracy to commit exploitation of a minor, 1st Degree.

He was taken into custody June 18 without incident and booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Newbanks possessed sexually explicit photos of a minor.

Chapin fire destroys home

Lexington County crews responded to the 100 block of Sawyers Court just after 6 pm Friday in reference to a residential structure fire.

Heavy flames could be seen coming from the home’s roof upon arrival. Exterior fire attack operations were established before firefighters proceeded inside of the home to finish extinguishing the fire.

3 residents were displaced, but no injuries were reported. The home suffered a total estimated damage of $225,000 and is determined to be a total loss. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

County meth bust

Lexington Police Department Delta Shift officers of the Patrol Division arrested 3 suspects overnight Tuesday/Wednesday.

The suspects were arrested during a traffic stop and charged with trafficking and PWID methamphetamine, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, providing false information, and other charges.
