Nip spring allergies in the bud

Posted

Spring means flower buds and blooming trees.

It can also mean sneezing, congestion, a runny nose and other bothersome symptoms.

To relieve seasonal allergy symptoms, try:

• Oral antihistamines. Antihistamines like Zyrtec and Allegra can help relieve sneezing, itching, a runny nose and watery eyes.

• Decongestants. Oral decongestants such as Sudafed can provide temporary relief from nasal stuffiness.

• Nasal spray. Cromolyn sodium nasal spray can ease allergy symptoms and doesn’t have serious side effects, though it’s most effective when you begin using it before your symptoms start.

• Rinse your nasal passages with saline solution to remove irritants.

If home remedies aren’t enough, see your doctor.
