State health officials say they will make covid-19 vaccine available at people’s homes as needed.

But, they said, they will not make unsolicited doorto-door vaccination calls.

Department of Health and Enviromental Control Director Edward Simmer, MD, said he appreciates Gov. Henry McMaster’s concerns for those still unvaccinted but no unsolicited door-to-door vaccinations will be offered.

Simmer said DHEC will offer in-home vaccines through its homebound vaccination program, but only if requested in advance by the person being vaccinated.

“DHEC continues to strongly encourage all eligible South Carolinians to get fully vaccinated to protect themselves and our communities from the ongoing threat of co vid-19 that continues to take lives every day,” he said.

“We continue to focus on making lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines as accessible as possible across the state.

SC and national data show that those who continue to become hospitalized and die from covid-19 are not fully vaccinated.

Low statewide vaccination rates allow the virus to continue to mutate.

More significant variants are spreading in many states and countries, Simmer said.

Getting vaccinated is a personal choice.
