Law enforcement involved in shooting a murder suspect in Harbison last month will not face charges.

2 Lexington County deputies and an SC Law Enforcement officer shot the suspect after he pointed a weapon at them while coming out of his hotel room.

An assistant SC attorney general said this week the officers used lawful force, and no charges will be filed against the officers.

The shooting happened Sept. 13 at the Aloft Columbia Harbison hotel.

Renard Carter, 29, was wanted in Minnesota for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend and her 2-yearold child.

Carter was believed to be in SC to kill his ex-girlfriend.

When officers approached the room where Carter was staying, they said he didn’t open the door and threatened to shoot them with a rifle.

Officers said Carter eventually came out of the room with a weapon in his hand. He was shot by 2 Lexington County deputies and a SLED agent before he was arrested.

The weapon turned out to be a BB gun that looked like a rifle, officials said.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident and turned over a report to the SC AG’s office at the request of 11th Circuit Solicitor Rick Hubbard.

Carter was taken to a local hospital and recovered.

He was extradited to Minnesota Sept. 24.

The 2 Lexington County deputies involved in the shooting, 14-year veteran Sgt. Aaron Poole and 5-year veteran Investigator Frank Ramunni, were placed on paid administrative leave. The SLED agent involved, 5-year veteran Special Agent Salvatore Cirencione, was placed on administrative duty.
