Lexington’s scenic Old Mill Pond is about to get a new life.
Construction has started on the pond dam that was washed away by the October 2015 flooding.
The flood took off part of the old mill itself.
Since then most businesses in the mill have reopened, but the pond remained empty.
The problem was the cost of rebuilding the dam, estimated at up to $6 million.
Dam owner Laban Chappell told WLTX-TV that he’s worked with state officials to repair the dam.
Once completed, he plans to raise the pond level.
Jeff Beacham, who’s working on the project, said he expects it to take about 4 months.
Town officials plan a mile walking trail around the pond when the dam is rebuilt.
