Park Road fire station in Lexington eyes December completion

County fire chief said emergency response times experience "minimal impact" amid renovation

Lexington Fire Station 10 on Park Road near the DMV is slated for full completion this December after ongoing renovations, according to Lexington County Fire Chief M. Kyle Minick.

Station 10 is a part of the North region for Lexington. The fire station was built in 1977, and after 48 years of serving the community, renovations were necessary. Minick said the light demolition of the inside of the station started in March.

Renovations include a redesign and upgrade to the bunk rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas.

“The bathroom facilities have been modernized from a single dorm-style setup to individual restrooms as well as a redesigned floor plan that allows for the addition of a bunkroom for additional companies,” Minick said.

This means the entirety of the station will be brought up to current building codes. The updates also mean personnel safety is enhanced amid steep population growth across the county.

In order to meet the “growing service delivery demands in the county,” the renovations allow for an “additional fire apparatus and crew to be housed” starting next year, according to Minick.

The fire station has been closed for most of this year amid the renovations, so personnel and equipment are at work at a different location.

“Station 10’s personnel and equipment have been temporarily relocated approximately 3.4 miles away to Ball Park Road, where they continue to serve as the primary response unit for the district,” Minick said.

Other stations in close proximity that support response include Lexington County fire stations 3 (Round Hill), 9 (Oak Grove), 15 (Lake Murray), 24 (Red Bank) and 30 (Corley Mill).

The emergency response times are experiencing "minimal impact" amid the renovation, he said.
