A reminder that Wreaths Across America will be held on Dec. 19. Oaklawn Cemetery in Pelion is part of this event. If you would like to sponsor a wreath to be placed at a veteran’s grave on this date, you can visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/SC0376P. Each wreath is $17 and supports a single wreath and fuels programs that honor veterans, teach future generations and give back to communities nationwide.
There will be more than 5,600 participating locations this year, with more than three million volunteers coming together. The goal for Oaklawn Cemetery is to raise enough funds to place 100 sponsored veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of all the local heroes laid to rest there in order to ensure the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country are never forgotten and to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration. The national Wreaths Across America Day is a free community event open to all people.
