PELION NEWS: Golf tourney set to support town hall, caboose restoration

There will be a Pelion restoration fundraiser golf tournament at 9 a.m. on Sept. 18. Funds raised from this event will be used to restore the old town hall and caboose and provide updates needed for the museum. Cost is $100 per person or $400 per team. The tournament will be held at the Calhoun Hills Golf Complex, 200 Country Club Road, St. Matthews.  For more information, contact Tommy Fairey at 803-682-2747 or Jan Green at 803-319-2427.

Work is continuing on Forts Pond Road. No date has been given as to when work will be completed and the road reopened. Residents living on the closure side are anxious to be able to get to Pelion without having to travel an additional 15 or 20 miles!

The Pelion Senior Center will play Beatball on Monday, Aug. 17. Mission of Lexington will be at the center on Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Members will participate in crafts and play Drumball on Wednesday, Aug. 19. Seniorcize is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 20, as well as tic-tac-toe.

Members will travel to Ollie’s on Friday, Aug. 21, and have lunch at the Olive Garden. Lunch is served daily at noon. “Walk the Pond” is from 10 a.m. until noon each day and exercise is daily at 11 a.m.

 If you are interested in becoming a member of the center, contact Laura Dowey at 803-894-4351. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The library will host toddler time for ages 12-36 months at 11 a.m. Aug. 18. Adults will play mah jongg at noon on Aug. 19.

 Preschool story time for 3-5-year-olds meets at 11 a.m. on Aug. 20. Senior chair yoga meets each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m. The families with children group meets at 3 p.m. on Aug. 18. Adults will learn canning skills at 11 a.m. on Aug. 22.
