The 45th annual Pelion Peanut Party will be held Nov. 6-7. There will be amusement rides, crafters, carnival food, live entertainment, a s’mores pit, a fireworks show and plenty of boiled peanuts. Mark your calendar and come join the party.
There will be a dessert contest with categories including cakes and cupcakes; pies and pastries; cookies and bars; no-bake treats and a kids’ category for 12 and under. The theme is peanut-inspired desserts, so get creative with peanut butter, roasted peanuts, candied peanuts and more. Drop-off is at the Pelion Community Center from 4-6 p.m. Nov. 6, and judging begins at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $5.
At the recent town council meeting, Mayor Shumpert and council members congratulated the Diamond Youth softball team for winning the state 1 5U championship.
Greg Downer, the council member who is spearheading the Pelion Museum, gave those in attendance a piece of the old wooden bridge that was covered over when the state took the dam to build a road. When work began on repairing the pipe under the road, crews found a lot of wood from the wooden bridge that the S.C. Department of Transportation had covered when it originally paved the road. There is still no date when the repairs will be completed and the road will be opened.
