Forts Pond Road is finally open. The South Carolina Department of Transportation installed guardrails on the opposite side of the pond, but not on the pond side. Interesting that it didn’t seem to matter that someone might drive off the pond side and drown. According to one council member, the DOT will install guardrails on the pond side if it is deemed a safety issue. Now, it seems common sense would indicate that it is indeed a safety issue without someone actually telling the agency that. It remains to be seen if the guardrails will be installed on the pond side. The road itself is paved with a deep dip where the pipe goes under the road. No one seems to know why it was paved that way. Maybe someone at the SCDOT can answer that. Everyone on the “closed” side of the pond is very grateful that the road is now open.

Mark the dates on your calendar: Nov. 6-7 is the annual S.C. Pelion Peanut Party.  The Christmas tree lighting will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at the community center. There will be crafts and a chance to meet Santa. The movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will be shown, so bring a chair or blanket.

Dec. 5 will be the Christmas market at the community center from 2-5 p.m. There will be handmade gifts, holiday treats and unique gifts. The Christmas parade will be held at 6 p.m. that day.
