PELION NEWS: Trunk-or-treat participants, food vendors sought

The food pantry at Convent Baptist is open from 2-6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.

The town of Pelion will host its annual Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5-9 p.m. The event will be held on Railroad Avenue in Pelion (along the walking trail). Participants are invited to decorate a vehicle or walking path space and hand out candy. A participant application is required and is due no later than Oct. 15. Email townhall@pelion.sc.gov to obtain an application for participation or a food vendor application.

Paving has been completed on Forts Pond Road. Still no date when the road will be opened to local traffic. The town has approved an ordinance that no 18-wheelers are allowed on the road. Police Chief Chris Garner advises that the road will be patrolled frequently.

A reminder that the Pelion Restoration Fundraiser Golf Tournament will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 18 at the Calhoun Hills Golf Complex located at 200 Country Club Road in St. Matthews. If you would like to sponsor a hole or the tournament, contact Tommy Fairey at 803-682-2747 or Jan Green at 803-319-2427. There will be prizes and contests, and all donations are appreciated. Proceeds will go toward repair of the town caboose and the renovation of the old potato building to house a museum.

The Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission’s Pelion Senior Center will play bingo on Monday, Aug. 31 and have arts and crafts on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The members will go shopping at Walmart on Friday, Sept. 4.

The Friends of the Pelion Branch Library are running a grocery raffle from now until early October. Tickets are $5 to enter a drawing for a $100 gift card to IGA; ticket purchases are cash only. The drawing will take place on Oct. 10.

 Toddlertime for 12-36 months will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. Epic Creators for grades 6-8 will meet Sept. 1 at 4 p.m.  Preschool story time for 3-5-year-olds meets Thursday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m.  Author Tiffiny Mariano will be at the library at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Teen Scene for grades 6-12 meets on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m.  Activities for adults 18 and up include: Senior Chair Yoga for ages 50 and up meets on Aug. 31, Sept. 2 and Sept. 4 at 11 a.m.; mah jongg meets each Wednesday at noon.

I enjoyed a night out with two of my nieces and one great-niece as we saw an Elvis impersonator at the Koger Center. Dinner at Halls and seeing the Elvis impersonator was a great experience since I’m a diehard Elvis fan.
