The town of Pelion will hold a Halloween trunk-or-treat from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Food vendors and participants are welcome but must complete applications that are due no later than Thursday, Oct. 15. Submit applications to townhall@pelion.sc.gov. There will be hayrides, games, music and tons of candy. Family-friendly costumes are requested. The event will be held at the Pelion Walking Trail.
The Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission’s Pelion Senior Center will travel to Shealy’s BBQ for lunch on Sunday, Sept. 27. Members will play cornhole on Tuesday, Sept. 29 and bingo on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Wii Bowling will be Thursday, Oct. 1 and bingo will be Friday, Oct. 2. Lunch is served daily. Contact Laura at 803-894-4351 for more information. The center is open from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
During the recent Pelion Town Council meeting, Police Chief Chris Garner reiterated that no tractor-trailers are to travel Forts Pond Road. He said he will issue a request to the S.C. Department of Transportation for guardrails to be placed on the pond side of the road. Not having these guardrails presents a serious safety issue.
Councilmember Greg Downer advised that the gentlemen restoring the caboose will be here around the second week in October to begin work.
Final reading and vote was taken on Ordinance 2026-05-02, which requires all event organizers to present a completed application 30 days in advance of the event. This will allow the town and the police department to ensure all safety measures are taken.
The Lexington County Library’s Pelion Branch will host preschool story time for 3-5-year-olds at 11 a.m. on Oct. 1. TeenScene for grades 6-12 will meet at 11 a.m. Oct. 3. Senior chair yoga meets each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m. for ages 50 and up.
The annual S.C. Pelion Peanut Party dessert contest will be held Friday, Nov. 6 with drop-off between 4 and 6 p.m. at the community center. Judging begins at 7 p.m. All desserts must contain at least one-half cup of peanut butter or peanuts and must be homemade. Participants must submit the recipe with the item for judging along with name and contact information. Winners will be announced at noon on Saturday, Nov. 7.
