Pelion Ruritan wins 5 gold awards

The Pelion Ruritan Chapter attended the District meeting recently and came home with five gold awards. Our chapter is very involved in community service and we have members who devote much time helping with various projects. Charlie Haggard was recognized at this meeting for having been a Ruritan member for 53 years.

Five members of the Pelion Ruritan Club met at Oaklawn Cemetery and replaced the flags on all the graves of veterans. This project has long been an event by the Ruritan to honor our military. Flags are replaced every Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Quilts of Valor, a national organization that honors veterans, presented quilts during the morning worship service at Convent Baptist to Mark Taylor, Army; Bobbie Collier, Special Forces; and David Merrill, Navy. These quilts are made by volunteers throughout the United States. South Carolina gives more Quilts of Valor than any other state. We thank all military men and women for their service.

The Run Hard group from Forts Pond Elementary School had Colton Williams ranked fifth in the third grade with 43 different schools involved. Ashlynn Brazzel in the third grade also placed. Mrs. Spence led a LEGOs and Leaders event on November 3 with the story of LEGOs being told.

The cafeteria staff at FPES served over 200 guests who came to have lunch with students November 15, National Parent Involvement Day Thanksgiving Lunch.

Mallard Market was a huge success with over 30 vendors and Santa.

Happy Birthday to Rick Free, Nick Hoover and Annette Lucas.

Pelion Library will host Technology training for ages 18 and up November 28. Preschool storytime for ages 2-5 will be November 28 at 11 am. Yarn art for ages 13 and up will be November 24 at 10 am. North of 50 for ages 60 and up meets November 27 at 11:15 am. This month they will discuss gratitude and thankfulness.

Pelion Elementary Veterans Day breakfast served 33 veterans. The school also had a parade with A. J. Jordan, third grade, leading the parade. Lexington One School Board members and Central Service staff visited the school November 16.

Pelion High JV basketball plays Mid-Carolina at 6 pm November 26, which will also include the ring ceremony. Varsity wrestling at C. A. Johnson will be November with weigh-in at 5 pm and wrestling at 6 pm. Varsity basketball plays Columbia November 28 at 6 pm.

Pelion Senior Center will be closed November 22 and 23 for Thanksgiving.
