The Lexington Branch of the NAACP celebrated Juneteenth two days early June 17 with performers, speakers and displays at the Rosenwald Community Learning Center. Constance Flemming MC’d the program and led those in attendance in singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Exhibitors included The WEGOJA Foundation, the Lexington County Museum, the Lexington Police Department, the League of Women Voters, and Benedict College, among others. Among the performers were a violinist, a male chorus and a storyteller. This year’s NAACP event came as Lexington prepared to mark its first Juneteenth as an official town holiday.
