They say the third time's the charm, and it was for the River Bluff girls soccer team.
After losing both of its regular season contests against Lexington, the Gators went into the Wildcats' den and pulled off a 3-1 upset to advance in the SCHSL playoffs.
Lexington got on the board first when Sidney Kitts scored in the 21st minute. But from there, it was all River Bluff. The Gators scored three unanswered goals the rest of the way to secure the win.
Brooke Ogorek's pass found Maddie Cruea, who evened the score with a goal at the end of the first half. Ogorek scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half. Anna Allen scored the game's final goal a few minutes later to seal the victory.
Goalie Julia Salo had a strong outing, allowing just the one goal in the first half.
River Bluff advances to the third round of the playoffs, where they will hit the road again for a game against Blythewood.
The Bengals had a phenomenal regular season, finishing (17-1-1) and (12-0) in region games.
River Bluff and Blythewood will kick off May 13 at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the Upper State championship game and play the winner of the J.L. Mann and Mauldin match.
