The weather fell right in with the 1st day of fall Sept. 22. What a refreshing change to feel a cooler crisper air and a sign of changing seasons.

Ann Bull tells us how to pick a pumpkin for carving. According to the Farmer’s Almanac:

• Look for a deep orange color pumpkin

• Tap it to be sure it is hollow or ripe

• Be sure the bottom is flat and firm

• Check the stem to be sure it’s secure but don’t pick it up by the stem

• Find a pumpkin with a smooth surface because this makes it easier to carve

A NEW TREND in entertaining is the charcuterie-antipasta board. Guests may safely secure appetizers with a cocktail pick and not touch the food. Charcuterie is the art of arranging appetizers on a board for parties. Finished with food-grade oil, these cedar boards have unique designs and feature live edges on both sides.

Charcuterie boards are ideal gifts and filled with meats, cheeses and vegetables are the highlight of any party. These boards have a rich beige and cedar color, beautiful knots, and natural wood edges. Sizes are 1 to 5 feet long. Contact Brian Knotts at (803) 960-3733 or brianwknotts@gmail.com
