Lexington County is getting another Planet Fitness.

A location of the gym chain is currently being installed in the Danwood Shopping Center at 2410 Augusta Rd. in West Columbia, along a busy corridor of U.S. Highway 1 that also features a Walmart, a Hobby Lobby and, across the street, an outpost of the gym chain MUV Fitness.

Work on the location is ongoing, with signs installed at the road and over the anchor space in the shopping center that is also home to Pet Supplies Plus, Calloway's Sports Bar & Grill, Casa Oaxaca Mexican, McCalister's, Domino's, Starbucks and Sonic Drive-In, among others.

The Viero Group, the Georgia-based company that is leasing the space, confirms Planet Fitness as the new tenant for the shopping center’s anchor spot in a flier looking to attract tenants for smaller retail spaces in the property that has been undergoing renovations since the summer.

That flier trumpets the busyness of the area as a benefit for potential tenants, citing “high visibility with approximately 34,700 vehicles per day on Augusta Rd.”

No formal announcement about when the new location will open or how it will impact the status of other local Planet Fitness locations has been made.

The new location sits close to another in the West Columbia-Cayce area, as there is already a Planet Fitness in the Parkland Plaza shopping center along Knox Abbott Drive, less than four miles away. Other Lexington County locations are in Irmo and Lexington, with eight locations total in the Columbia area. Per Planet Fitness’ website, there are more than 2,400 locations in operation, most of them in the United States.
