Plans Announced for Lake Murray Fourth of July Celebrations

Posted

Let the boats parade and the fireworks boom.

The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Office has announced plans for this year’s Fourth of July celebrations on Lake Murray.

In their 34th year, the festivities will take place on Saturday, July 2, and feature the expected boat parade at noon and fireworks show at 9:15 p.m.

The fireworks over the lake will be choreographed to a patriotic concert (which will air simultaneously via B106.7 WTCB) and will be shot off from Spence Island and Dreher Island. The release claims that it is South Carolina’s largest fireworks show. Viewing will be available at the parks that flank the Lake Murray Dam (until they reach capacity) and at Dreher Islands State Park, as well as by boat.

The theme for this year’s boat parade is “Honoring Our Heroes.”

“Enjoy the patriotic display as locals and visitors decorate their boats in ways that will leave you amazed,” a press release enthuses.

The parade is viewable by boat as well as from the parks beside the Lake Murray Dam. Participation is free, and prizes are given. Register at lakemurraycountry.com/boatparade, in person at the Lake Murray Country Visitor Center (2184 N. Lake Dr.) or by calling (803) 781-5940.
