Police, church pass out school supplies

AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

The City of West Columbia, West Columbia Police Department and Turner Memorial AME Church teamed up to provide school supplies to those in need in Lexington School District 2.

Assistant Chief Scott Morrison said the department and the church hope that this effort will allow the children to begin the school year with all of the tools they need.

Donations were accepted by police officers and dropped off at the Police Department, Captain John Norman arranged the pick up of donations.

The donations were to be distributed at a Turner Memorial AME Church Back-to-School event where families in need received a book bag with school supplies.

A fire destroyed a West Columbia thrift store called Lets Just Plunder, just off of Meeting Street Aug.

14. No injuries were reported, but the building and its contents were a total loss.

A crowd at the Midland Dixie Youth Baseball field in Pine Ridge welcomed home Midland’s 2018 AAA DYB World Series Champions last week, said Stephen Knight, Midland DYB president. The parade route started at Congaree Baptist Church and continued up Pine Ridge Drive to the home of the six-times World Series Champions.
