Police are seeking witnesses to a weekend hit-and-run crash that claimed a Cayce woman’s life.
The Cayce Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward after a pedestrian was fatally struck by an unknown vehicle around 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, on the 1800 block of Frink Street.
Police didn’t name the victim. A news release issued Monday, Aug. 24, identifies her a Cayce resident.
“Our thoughts are first and foremost with the victim and her loved ones as they navigate this devastating loss,” Cayce Police Chief Bruce Wade said in the release. “Our investigators are working diligently to identify the vehicle and driver responsible. We are asking anyone with information, no matter how small they may think it is, to come forward and help us bring answers and accountability to this family.”
Cayce Police Department investigators are working the case along with South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, Cayce police spokesperson Karly Shorter said in the release.
Shorter said investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, collecting and analyzing evidence and pursuing leads to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
“The department is asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have information that could assist investigators to contact law enforcement,” the release says. “Even information that may seem insignificant could help investigators piece together what happened.”
Anyone with information can call the Cayce Police Department Tip Line at 803-550-9536 or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-888-CRIMESC.
