Gilbert man pleads guilty to making phone threats

A Gilbert resident linked to the extremist Proud Boys faces prison time.

James Giannakos, 47, pleaded guilty to threatening a former federal prosecutor.

US District Judge Terry Wooten will sentence Giannakos June 29, according to the Associated Press.

Giannakos was arrested in February after recorded threats made to a former federal prosecutor in Florida were traced to his phone.

He pleaded guilty in April.

Court records say Giannakos was angry at the prosecutor for comments she made to news outlets saying Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio had been an FBI informant.

Prosecutors say evidence links Giannakos to the Jan. 6 US Capitol riot but he has not been charged.
