Around ChApin & irmo

Rain, rain, go away” has been the groan of many in the Midlands! We have quite a rainy and muddy last couple of weeks. My yard is still boggy. Indoor activities at our local museums are a wonderful way to pass the time on weekends when the weather is not cooperating.

Because Irmo and Chapin are so close to Lexington and Columbia, we can visit the Lexington County Museum, Cayce Museum and the State Museum, great places to visit on a rainy or cold day. For art lovers, the Columbia Museum of Art is the place to go.

I am going to Smithsonian’s exhibit, “Crossroads,” which is on display at the Newberry Opera House through February

2. This traveling exhibit is interactive and offers opportunity for discussion regarding the decline of America’s rural population and the ripple effect that has occurred. Pictures of the past will be on display celebrating small towns in the nation. For more information, call 803-276-6264.

Chapin’s 2018 Hall of Fame is on January 13 at 3 pm. The nominees are James Mills and William F Bill Zeigler.

Get involved with your school district; the District 5 school board meeting is January 14 at Lake Murray Elementary at 7 pm.

Being a teen can be difficult enough, and being a teen in the foster care system can be extremely hard. January 12 at 3 pm, Irmo Library is making Comfort Cases for teens who have to go to foster care. Donations of gently used duffel bags, backpacks, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, and deodorant are also needed. Drop off items at the children’s section in the library.
