Supplies limited but vaccines arrive daily

Our state is setting records on covid vaccinations.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control Wednesday announced:

- Our vaccination percentage per doses received from the federal government is 31%.

- That's higher than the national average of 19%.

It's almost double that of other southeastern states.

DHEC did not disclose how many doses have been given in Lexington County.

“The number of Phase 1a individuals who can receive the vaccine is increasing each week,” said Dr. Linda Bell, SC State Epidemiologist.

“Our goal is to prevent further loss of life to this deadly virus.”

The vaccine doses given and doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine received indicates North Carolina and Georgia have received and given more doses but SC has given a higher percentage of doses it received:

  • South Carolina: 35,158 doses received, 112,125 doses given (31%)
  • North Carolina 63,500 doses received, 323,125 doses given (20%)
  • Georgia: 52,242 doses received, 372,900 doses given (14%)
  • Using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 Data Tracker, the national vaccine administration percentage, based on doses distributed and first doses administered is19%.

Dr. Bell said the vaccines are limited as they are in all states.

She encouraged everyone to remain patient.
