Red Cross needs emergency blood

The Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a blood drive at the West Columbia City Hall complex, 200 N. 12th St., today, July 12. It’s from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.  in the New Brookland Room. Donors will receive a box of Girl Scout cookies.

The City of Cayce’s employees came together June 29 to donate 31 units of blood to the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross is now facing an emergency blood shortage following a difficult 4th of July week. There were hundreds fewer blood drives than a typical week and a resulting decline in donations. Right now, blood is being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in. All eligible donors are urgently needed to give now to help replenish the blood supply.

And new blood donors are needed every day to save the lives of patients who depend on the generosity of volunteer donors. Contact the Central SC Chapter of the American Red Cross at 803-540-1200.

The Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center is hosting a pickleball demonstration featuring Carlos Ant-rich, a USAPA ambassador. It’s 6-8 p.m., on July 27. If you want to learn to play pickleball, this is the time and it’s free.

Did you get backed up? Ermine Road in Springdale, had to be closed week before last between Platt Springs and Old Barnwell raods due to a broken water line. City of West Columbia personnel worked diligently to get the line repaired to open the road.

Members of the West Columbia Police and Fire departments joined the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands West Columbia Summer Camp to help turn Glenforest School orange for Spirit Week the last week in June.
