The discovery of skeletal remains on Charleston Highway in Lexington County has prompted an investigation headed by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, the Cayce Police Department and the West Columbia Police Department into the cause of death.

A Dominion Energy employee reported finding remains on Jan. 19 in a wooded area in Cayce.

The remains were positively identified as Wayne Alan Marcolini, 62, of West Columbia.

Marcolini, according to a press release from the coroner’s office, was reported missing to the West Columbia Police Department in January 2023.

The cause and manner of death are being investigated.
