Remembering dear old Dad

In honor of all Dads, Caughman-Harman Funeral Home held a Father’s Remembrance Car Show Saturday. It featured classic cars that we all remember as our family vehicles.

It was a trip back in time that brought back many happy memories of traveling near and far. The show was free and food was provided.

Trophies were awarded in categories. Vintage cars never go out of style. They are true classics!

How did you celebrate Father’s Day?

SUMMER officially arrived June 20, on Father’s Day. It was the longest day of the year and time for lots of outdoor activity.

ATTEND your Lexington Chamber Business Lexpo 2021, June 24, 11 am - 2 pm at River Bluff High. This trade show is designed to help small to medium-sized businesses connect with one another, grow their businesses and renew relationships.

NATURALIST Zach Steinhauser of Wingard’s Market is offering boat rides to see the purple martins on Lake Murray. Nearly 1 million purple martins fly out and in to Bomb Island at dawn and dusk.

Zach is a licensed US Coast Guard Captain. Tours will be Mondays - Fridays, July 5 to Aug. 27, at 7 pm. Guests are asked to arrive by 6:30. 4 Saturday morning sessions will leave at 5:30 am. Evening tours are $40 adult and $35 for children. Morning tours are $60 adult and $55 for kids. The boat departs from Jake’s Landing.

BOBBY, GINNY, Ryan and Keith Wingard and Karen Hughes make Wingard’s Gooddaddy BBQ sauce based on a family recipe available at 4 Oaks Farms, Wingard’s and Ole Timey Meat Market.

THE CAPITAL City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board plans for this year’s Independence Day celebration July 3.

MARY LOUISE Resch reports: Habitat for Humanity’s 6th annual golf tournament will be August 3 at Country Club of Lexington, sponsored by SC Realty of Columbia.

VISIT YOUR local market at Icehouse Pavilion featuring local vendors, live music, food trucks, fresh produce, crafts and more. You can shop Saturdays at the pavilion at 107 W. Main St., 9 am - 1 pm until the end of September, except July 3.

CONGRATULATIONS to William Lynch, 26, funeral director at Caughman-Harman Funeral Homes who serves as program director and founder of the Homeless Veterans Burial Program.

William was among The State newspaper’s Top 20 Under 40 Class of 2021 for starting the veterans burial program, winning a Jefferson Award and being Chapin Chamber of Commerce board chairman.

He said, “To me, giving back has always been important. Being in a civic organization, the press box to announce a Chapin Eagles football game or helping on a call as a volunteer firefighter with Lexington County have given me some of the most cherished life highlights.” His wife Kelsey and he have a daughter Taylor Grace (1 year) and baby boy who is due in September.

ANNE BULL reports: Happy 50th Golden Anniversary to Beth and Bob Speaks, Marlene and Dean Wheeler and Donna and Fred Suhrstedt.

Dennis Bull was surprised with a birthday fiesta given by wife Anne Saturday at Virl Caughman’s lakeside home. Happy birthday to Tyler Morin, Sidney Gatch, Mickey Perrin and Blair Sims. Billy Walker enjoyed a surprise birthday party at O’Hara’s, and June Fusco had a birthday lunch with her group at Hall’s Chop House.
