Remembering lost loved ones

International Overdose Awareness Day at the Statehouse highlighted such themes as tragedy, sadness and hope.

The 2nd annual remembrance event included family members speaking of lives lost to overdoses and recovery resources.

Lexington was well represented with Sen. Katrina Shealy speaking.

Gov. Henry McMaster signed a ceremonial bill to expand access to Naloxone, the life-saving overdose medication.

Physicians can now coprescribe Naloxone with opioids, which provides a natural opportunity for lifesaving conversations with their patients.

Lexington County groups such as LRADAC and The Courage Center provided educational material, Narcan, and recovery stories.

The Courage Centers on Park Road and US 1 celebrated Recovery Month by announcing a federal grant award to expand recovery services.

The centers are the only recovery organizationhere that focuses on youth, young adults and families.

They accept participants from all counties in South Carolina.

To talk with a recovery support specialist and schedule an appointment for nocost services call Hunter or Trish at (803) 369-3905.
