River Bluff High School chess team wins back-to-back state championships

River Bluff High School’s chess team has once again claimed the top spot in South Carolina, earning back-to-back State Championships at the State Scholastic Chess Championship held on March 21, 2026, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

Competing against top programs from across the state, the Gators demonstrated exceptional strategy, focus and teamwork to bring home the championship title for the second consecutive year.

River Bluff’s championship team included Daniel Lim, Dheer Chheda, Joseph Sorenson, Landon Peeples, Rishabh Reshamwala, Rivers Hughes, Rushaan Sotimagar and Tyler Murrah.

Several students also earned individual recognition for their outstanding performances throughout the season, highlighted by strong finishes across multiple competitions and continued excellence at the state level.

This championship caps off a dominant season for the Gators, who consistently performed at a high level across the Palmetto Scholastic Chess League and now stand as repeat state champions.

River Bluff High School congratulates these student leaders for representing the school and community with excellence, discipline and pride.
