The number of Chronicle Country volleyball teams in the third round of the S.C. High School League playoffs increased by three Oct. 25.

River Bluff and Gray Collegiate were victorious on their respective home floors in the Upper State, while Lexington pulled off a Lower State road victory.

The Lady Gators defeated Clover in three sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) in The Swamp. It was a match filled with long volleys as River Bluff's defense held firm at the net with blocks and kept shots alive to set up points.

Up next in the Lady Gators' gauntlet in the Class 5A Upper State is a trip to Mauldin Oct. 27. It's the third meeting between the two schools, with River Bluff (38-5-1) winning both previous matches in two sets.

A victory by the Lady Gators would guarantee an Upper State final match Nov. 1 against either defending champion Dorman or Nation Ford.

On the Class 5A Lower State side, Lexington defeated Summerville in four sets to reach the third round. The scores were 19-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16.

The Lady Wildcats (26-12) head on the road again Oct. 27 to face Carolina Forest. The winner will faces either Wando, which defeated Dutch Fork in three sets 16-25, 13-25, 8-25, or Ashley Ridge in the Lower State final.

In Class 2A, Gray Collegiate Academy defeated Saluda in four sets. The scores were 25-8, 25-18, 16-25, 25-10.

The Lady War Eagles (19-13-1) travel to Landrum Oct. 27. The winner then faces either Liberty, which defeated Pelion on the road in three sets 9-25, 7-25, 16-25) or Ninety-Six in the Upper State final.
