Riverbanks Zoo and Garden has welcomed several new animals and announced a lineup of events.
Suci, a Sumatran tiger, is one of the zoo's newest residents. She arrived from the Memphis Zoo as part of the Sumatran Tiger Species Survival Plan, which has an international effort to protect this critically endangered species.
Joining Suci is a Wallaby joey named Sherman, who received his name through a public naming contest. The name is a reference to "P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way," a reference from the Disney-Pixar film "Finding Nemo.''
Nadya, a 10-year-old female Sand Cat, has taken residence in the zoo's Conservation Outpost tunnel.
In addition to new animal arrivals, Riverbanks continues its Toucan Tuesdays program in partnership with Harvest Hope Food Bank. Every Tuesday through Aug. 12, guests who donate two nonperishable food items will receive buy-one-get-one-free admission and BOGO regular-sized ICEEs.
Donation bins are located at both entrances, and there is no limit to how many Tuesdays guests can take advantage of the offer.
On Aug. 1, the zoo will launch online sales for Pollinator Plant Packs, a curated collection of low-maintenance, pollinator-friendly plants. Each $60 pack includes a 10 quart-sized plants designed to help guests create their own eco-beneficial gardens at home.
Pickup is scheduled for Sept. 20 from 8 to 10 a.m. at Riverbanks Botanical Garden.
Also on Aug. 1, the zoo will host Brew at the Zoo from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The event features more than 100 craft brews, 60 vendors, food trucks and live music. General admission costs $70 for members and $80 for the general public. Attendees must be 21 and older.
On Friday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m., an exclusive members-only even will offer after-hours zoo access, activities and special perks for attendees.
From Sept. 14 through Feb. 20, Riverbanks Botanical Garden will showcase a special LEGO brick sculpture exhibit, featuring larger-than-life designs that highligh themse such as animal endangerment, ecosystems, art and the connection between nature and creativity.
On Sept. 26 from 7 to 10:30 p.m., the zoo will host a fundraising event featuring cocktails, cuisine, live and silent auctions and a zero-waste format. Tickets are $85 for members and $100 for the public. Tickets go on sale Aug. 1 for members and Aug. 8 for the general public.
