Road Woes Continue for Blowfish in Loss to Flamingos

Posted

Just a month ago, the Lexington County Blowfish were one victory away from clinching the I-20 Series trophy.

With Tuesday's 7-4 loss at the Florence Flamingos, the series is now deadlocked at four wins apiece. The deciding game is scheduled for July 28 at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

In posting a fourth straight win over Lexington County this season and handing them an 11th consecutive road loss, Florence jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

All four runs scored with two outs, starting with an RBI double by Will Hardee. After Jordan Smith walked, Jack Hammond belted a three-run homer over Talmadge LeCroy of the University of South Carolina.

Florence scored three more runs off LeCroy in the third inning. The utility player struck out six, walked four and allowed 12 hits in seven innings.

Brooks Fowler allowed just three hits in pitching a complete game for Florence. The lone runs allowed came off the bats of Brody Hopkins and Ryan Ouzts.

Lexington (11-23, 1-9) has now lost 15 of its last 16 games and 19 of its last 21. Despite the loss, it remained one game ahead of Asheboro for the worst overall record in the Coastal Plain League.

The Blowfish will look to snap their current two-game losing streak Wednesday at home against the Macon Bacon.
