Rock 4 Habitat concert to benefit nonprofit’s local efforts

Posted

A concert with a cause is happening this weekend at Lexington’s Icehouse Amphitheater.

The inaugural Rock 4 Habitat is a fundraiser for Central SC Habitat for Humanity. The all-local lineup features The Reggie Sullivan Band, Admiral Radio, and The Runout. There will be several food vendors, and the Old Mill Brewpub is holding a raffle.

“Every dollar raised from the concert goes into programs and services going back into repairing homes for the community,” said Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity’s Communications Coordinator Brittani Richards. “Right now we are building a home in West Columbia and going to start a home in Gaston next month.”

Richards said his group is set to dedicate a home in Lexington April 14. The habitat division averages about six to seven homes built a year in addition to the many repairs they do for homes throughout the counties of Richland, Lexington and Farifleld.

The concert is a new effort to generate funds to do that work.

During the event, the organization will commemorate having helped satisfy 102 mortgages.

The people Habitat helps must meet certain qualifications.

“People apply for the program every January at a host applicant meeting,” Richards said. “We go through the process of looking at credit, etc. The person must demonstrate a need, an ability to pay because our homes aren’t free and a willingness to partner.”

There are various ways to partner — helping with construction, volunteering or going through financial counseling.
