Saluting golf improvement

Your body can be magical and ‘Getting Better Faster’ has been our Winter Golf Training theme.

Before sharing suggestions on improving, some local juniors had recent success.

Chase Cline, a freshman at Chapin, earned individual honors in the “Battle of the Dam Invitational” held at Golden Hills.

Gage Gaskins, a Lexington High student, finished 5th and Ashton Eubanks of River Bluff placed 6th.

AC Flora, led by Adam Hunt who finished 3rd individually, won the team championship.

In most high school tournaments, 5 players make up the starting lineup and the 4 best scores are counted.

The highest score is thrown out. In certain events, under special circumstances, host teams have the privilege of allowing 2 teams in the field.

In this particular event, Lexington and River Bluff had 2 teams entered.

The Lexington Wildcat B team placed 11th, while the River Bluff Gator B team placed 9th.

What this shows is respectable depth in both programs. Roger Smith, head coach for the Gators elaborated,

“I am pleased with both teams,” he said. “(The River Bluff)A-team improved by 95 shots over last year and (the B-team) 92. It proves they have worked hard in the off-season.

“We were fortunate with the weather and our kids are excited about being back on the course competing. Not just our kids, but all kids.”

The Prisma Health Motion Analysis and Performance Lab is led by Dr. Jay Patel.

Rob Ingle is an Athletics Trainer and Puggy Blackmon is a retired College Hall of Fame golf coach with a passion to help people improve their golf game.

Here is what this team with technology is doing for me.

First and foremost, it quickly showed me what I could do in order to swing more efficiently.

Notice I said quickly and, as Robin All used to remind me, it’s later than you think.

So quickness is important and the rapidness is the result of technology supported by a diverse education.

The process was set up in simple, easy to understand layers. The end result is I’m having more fun with swinging at a golf ball than I ever have had.

Hand and feet issues had completely dampened my enthusiasm for golf training but these experts have given me new hope.

More next week, so stay tuned.

Longer warmer days mean more time for golf. There are all kinds of new golf programming to be offered through our local parks. The Lexington Recreation and Aging Commission, the Richland County Recreation Commission and the Irmo-Chapin Recreation Commission all have golf options on their websites so check them out.
