SC health department needs an overhaul

Posted

The vaccine debacle that is unfolding in SC clearly shows the state legislature seriously needs to overhaul the Department of Health and Environmental Control.

It is becoming obvious that DHEC was totally unprepared for the pandemic and incapable of managing this critically important and life saving program.

Just last week their flawed registration process became overwhelmed because they unnecessarily expanded the pool of eligible elderly participants down to age 70.

Additionally, requiring separate email addresses for each registrant ham-strung 2-person senior households and created additional complications on their sign-up site.

Then last Friday DHEC announced they only had enough supplies to vaccinate about 1/4th of those registered for the following week. This was on the same day they held a ‘secret’ unannounced vaccination drive-through at the State Fairgrounds for 600 people.

This type of shenanigan makes you wonder about the special treatment afforded the fortunate 600, how they learned about the vaccination drive-through and who were these privileged folks.

A list of names might be revealing.

Bob Ferrell, Lexington County
