S.C. High School League Announces Realignment for 2022-24

Posted

The biennial reclassification/realignment of S.C. High School League schools was revealed this past Friday.

The changes for athletics will be in effect for the next two years beginning with the 2022-23 school year. Each school will have an opportunity to appeal before the Executive Committee at hearings Jan. 24-25. The deadline to request a hearing is Jan. 17.

While all 14 Chronicle Country members remained in their respective classifications, some were part of region changes.

Region 5-5A — which includes Dutch Fork, Chapin, Lexington, White Knoll and River Bluff — is now Region 4-5A, as Class 5A was reduced to seven regions with 36 schools.

A similar change involves Irmo, which will move from Region 4-4A to Region 5-4A with Ridge View, which moved down from Class 5A as a new member.

Dreher also dropped a classification to Class 3A, where it will compete in Region 5-3A with Gilbert, Brookland-Cayce, Swansea, Orangeburg-Wilkinson and newcomer Lower Richland.

Also switching regions were Gray Collegiate and Pelion. Gray Collegiate, Eau Claire and Newberry (football only) were moved from Region 3-2A to Region 4-2A, while Pelion, Strom Thurmond, Silver Bluff and Fox Creek took their place in Region 3-2A.
