School c-19 cases in question

SC health officials and at least 1 Lexington County district disagree on covid cases in the schools.

District 1 lists 27 schools with student infections. In 20 of those schools at least staffer also is infected.

Department of Health an Environmental Control data shows 32 District 1 schools have infections.

High numbers on DHEC’s site this week were 37 case at both Red Bank Elementary and River Bluff High.

Yet District 1 told the Chronicle River Bluff had only 8 students test positive and 1 at Red Bank Elementary with no staff infected a either school.

DHEC has not yet responded to a Chronicle question about the difference in reported case numbers.

District 2 in Cayce, Springdale and West Columbia reported 14 schools infected.

District 3 in Batesburg-Leesville reported 4 schools.

District 4 in Gaston and Swansea reported 6.

District 5 in Chapin and Irmo reported 21 schools.

6 county private schools reported infections.

In the state, 6,739 student cases were reported and 2,620 staff cases.
