This has been a rewarding job and I will miss everyone so very much” said Maxine Caughman, director of the Gilbert-Summit Senior Center. She retires at the end of August. She has worked for the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission for 24 years and has been director of the GSSC for six.

Caughman always encouraged members to work together as a team so they would always have an input on activities. She has seen the center grow with memberships and with a new addition, which includes a craft room, game and meeting room, library and personnel offices. After retiring Caughman plans to enjoy more hours on Lake Murray, volunteer, and join a fitness class. Last week, she enjoyed a retirement luncheon with members and guests.

Where are the beautiful painted rocks hidden in the Gilbert Community Park? The Gilbert Rocks Facebook community was told the children’s rocks are being taken by individuals but are not being re-hidden for the children to find. Children enjoy creating and hiding the rocks for others to find and re-hide. If you find a painted rock in the park, don’t keep it, hide it somewhere else.
