Lexington County's quest for its longest winning streak since moving from Columbia in 2015 ended late Tuesday night at home.

With two outs and trailing 5-3, the Wilmington Sharks scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Blowfish 6-5.

The loss snapped Lexington County's seven-game winning streak. Despite the loss, the Blowfish (9-5) remained two games behind West Division leader and defending Coastal Plain League champion Savannah following its 5-2 loss to Florence.

For the second straight game, the Blowfish looked like it would successfully rally from a 3-1 deficit. A 2-run triple by College of Charleston catcher Jared Kirven of Lexington tied the game in the sixth inning.

In the seventh, Reece Holbrook singled, advanced to seccond and third on wild pitches and scored on a fielder's choice by Will Sykes of Gilbert.

Another RBI fielder's choice by The Citadel's Crosby Jones of Dutch Fork made it 5-3.

Infield errors enabled Wilmington have runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Brody Hopkins, who relieved starter Cole Mathis after four innings, was replaced by C.J. Czerwinski.

Noah Bridges lined Czerwinski's 3-2 pitch into centerfield to score two runs and tie the game. After Bridges stole second, he scored on A.J. Mendolia's single to give the Sharks the lead.

Lexington County had a runner on third base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Holbrook struck out to end the inning.

In the ninth, Jones reached on a one-out single. The game ended with consecutive flyouts to leftfield by Braylin Marine and pinch hitter Brock Vradenburg.

The Blowfish are idle Wednesday before starting a stretch of 11 regular-season games in 12 days. It starts Thursday with the first of back-to-back road games at Savannah, while a second Blowfish team plays host to Catawba Valley.
