Should state sell Santee Cooper?

Mid-Carolina Electric members and other Chronicle readers will have a chance to discuss selling Santee Cooper.

The taxpayer-owned utility supplies much of the power to Mid-Carolina Electric in Lexington County.

The SC Small Business Chamber of Commerce and the Lexington County Chronicle will sponsor a town hall discussion on the pros and cons of a possible sale of Santee Cooper.

The state’s financially-troubled utility owes more than $8 billion in nuclear fiasco and other debt.

The town hall will be in Lexington Wednesday May 1, 5:30-7 pm at the main Lexington County Library, 5440 Augusta Road.

“We’re taking this controversial issue about the future of Santee Cooper to the people,” said chamber CEO Frank Knapp Jr.

This is among 6 town halls across the state.

The meeting is not library sponsored but space has been made available for it as a free public event.
