SLED investigating hazing allegations involving Lexington baseball team

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating hazing allegations involving the Lexington High School varsity baseball team.

On Feb. 18, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department requested that SLED open an investigation into the matter, a SLED spokesperson confirmed to the Chronicle.

SLED’s investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information can provide tips to SLED at tips@sled.sc.gov or 866-472-8477.

A Lexington County School District One spokesperson issued the following statement:

“During the week of Feb. 16, administrators at Lexington High School received a tip about possible hazing involving students. The school notified the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

On Feb. 18, 2026, the Sheriff’s Department requested that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) conduct an investigation. That investigation is active and ongoing.

At the request of law enforcement, the school paused its internal review while SLED began its work. On March 2, Lexington High School was advised it could move forward with a separate school-based investigation.

Lexington High School and Lexington County School District One are fully cooperating with law enforcement. Hazing and any behavior that harms students is taken very seriously. The district will continue to follow board policy and district procedures as the school’s review moves forward.

Because this is an active investigation, we cannot share additional details at this time.”

The Lexington baseball team is in the middle of its spring 2026 season. The Wildcats have played six games since the school was made aware of the allegations. Officials have not said whether any players will be disciplined related to the incident.
