It’s do-or-die time for every team in Lexington County as the spring sports postseason is in full swing.

With every game potentially being the last, many of the area’s best athletes are leaving it all on the field in hopes of extending their season.

This week’s Athlete of the Week winners both play on the soccer field and kept their teams’ season going by scoring key goals in big wins.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Jason Gonzalez-Hernandez

Gray Collegiate’s Jason Gonzalez-Hernandez scored in each of Gray’s first two playoff games.

In the opening round win over Darlington, he had a game-high five points, scoring two goals and adding an assist. He followed that performance with a goal in the War Eagles’ 2-0 win over South Aiken.

Gonzalez-Hernandez has been Gray’s most productive goal-scorer in 2026. He is averaging over one made goal per game and has scored in five straight games.

The War Eagles will be back on the field this week to continue their postseason run. Gray is trying to get back to the title game after falling in the semis last season.

More contributions from Gonzalez-Hernandez will improve the team’s odds of making that happen.

Lila Bowers

Chapin’s Lila Bowers led the Eagles to a playoff-opening win, scoring three goals in an 8-0 win over Berkeley.

Bowers recorded her third hat trick of the season in the win. She previously scored three goals in a win over Dutch Fork and had a season-high four goals against White Knoll.

The senior is hoping to help Chapin finally break through and win a state title after consecutive seasons of losing in the championship game.

Bowers had the most goals and points on the team this season. With action resuming this week, Chapin will look for her to keep it up as the competition becomes more challenging.
