South Carolina Visit Left Strong Impression on Lexington's Cam Scott

Posted

The University of South Carolina football team left a strong impression Oct. 22 with more than just Associated Press voters who placed them in the Top 25.

Among the 77,837 fans in attendance for the 30-24 win over Texas A&M was Lexington High School basketball prospect Cam Scott.

The timing of his first official visit with the nationally televised game proved very positive for 24/7Sports’ No. 1 in-state prospect for the Class of 2024. Sporting a garnet-and-black South Carolina T-shirt the next day while assisting with a Halloween Camp at Wildcat Gymnasium, Scott seemed all but ready to make his college choice.

“South Carolina for sure,” Scott said when asked right now about his college choice. “Yeah, there's always a potential for. But I mean, nothing beats me being at home. So, the closer I can stay, the more comfortable. I know what my surroundings will be, where my family would be. But I also have to take into consideration basketball development as well.”

When Scott arrived on-campus, he described the environment as “home-setting.” He heard from fans in the community approaching him from saying “how big he would be for USC basketball”

Scott said he and first-year head coach Lamont Paris built a closer rapport with each other. He also spoke with current players following their practice and said they had a “natural-type” connection with each other.

The highlight of Scott’s visit was attending the football game and the raucous atmosphere present throughout the game.

“I mean, it really doesn't get much better than that,” he said. “A big game at home at Williams-Brice Stadium, especially an SEC game, is huge and, even the way they started out the game, the fans brought the energy, and it seemed contagious throughout the whole game.”

Having previously taken an unofficial tour of Tennessee’s campus, Scott has no further visits planned the rest of the year. He hopes to reach a final decision some time in January.

For now, his focus is on the upcoming season where the Wildcats look to build on last year’s Lower State semifinal appearance.

“It's getting closer and closer each day and I just get more and more excited,” he said. “Just coming in having basketball class with guys, knowing that the season about to start up, is pretty fun.”
