Call it a “Three-Peat” by Lexington High School’s “Big Three”.

For the third consecutive year, a Lady Wildcats girls’ soccer player was named the S.C. Coaches Association of Women’s Sports Class 5A Player of the Year.

This year’s recipient is Mary Katherine Waters, who posted 25 goals and 22 assists this past season for the Class 5A Lower State champions.

Waters was preceded in 2016 by Brooke Power and last season by Megan Classer. The trio helped Lexington win 97 games, finish 44-0 in region play, win four straight region titles, two Lower State titles, finish runner-up this past season and claim the Class 4A title in 2016.

“I was so surprised, but so extremely thankful when I found out,” Waters said. “I truly believe hard work pays off, so this is so rewarding for me after these past few years.”

The awards banquet will take place at 1 p.m. on June 10 at the South Carolina State Museum at 301 Gervais St. in Columbia.

Waters is one of four Lexington County athletes who will be honored at the banquet:

CLASS 5A PLAYER OF THE YEAR (Softball) - Andrea Lyon (White Knoll)

The junior righthander set a school record for victories in leading the Lady Timberwolves to their first-ever Class 5A title.

CLASS 4A ATHLETE OF THE YEAR (Track & Field) Jayla Jamison

The Eagles’ eighth grader won four gold medals at the S.C. Track and Field Championships.

CLASS 3A PLAYER OF THE YEAR (Basketball) - Danae McNeal (Swansea)

The Clemson University-bound junior was named USA Today’s South Carolina Player of the Year.
